Watch "How to Make Apple Salad" Video.
How does it get better than this? You don't even have to drive to an orchard to get fruit anymore! You can easily order (right here on this page!) any number of boxes, packed with juicy, tasty and healthful Sansa apples that are grown on our GMO-free Lancaster County farm, and have them shipped to your home in a jiffy.

Sansa is the first "real" eating apple of the season and harvest time of this variety at our orchards is always welcomed as the "official" start of "Apple Season". An "offspring" of Gala and also related to Jonathan (now you know why everyone loves this apple!) that originated in Japan, Sansa is well positioned for success with its tremendous flavor, juice, and crunch.

You needn’t just take our word but notice what the Food Mayhem blogger, Jessica Lee Binder, and her followers say about this variety. "The bright red and yellow apples happen to be perfect for eating fresh. They are crisp, nicely balanced between tart and sweet, and amazingly fragrant. I can just imagine…Sansa perfume, hehe. They run the same prices as most others and I think they’re my new favorite eating apple." Interestingly, Jessica touts this Zucchini Apple Bread recipe and we here at the orchard think that Sansa apples paired with zucchini squash (complete with health benefits galore!) would be quite a natural in late summer when both are fresh from the field.

Let's think some more of that wonderful time of the year when summer is about to turn into autumn and when Sansa apples are ripening! We wouldn't have you miss out on apple salads like the video tutorial featured below which also calls for healthful ingredients like Sliced Almonds and Dried Cranberries.

Suggestion of the Day from our Orchard Manager: Clair Kauffman (together with his wife and children), known for their creative tastes and ideas suggest that adding thin slices of apple onto a burger (or almost any sandwich) makes a good thing even better!

Helpful Hint: We here at Kauffman's Fruit Farm think that Sansa (especially from the famous Bargain Bins located under the front porch of our market) provides excellent sweetness for applesauce when blended with more tart varieties like Earligold, Summer Rambo or Smokehouse.

More great fresh-eating varieties which ripen with and are somewhat similar to Sansa which we grow here on the farm include Ginger Gold and Zestar!

We utilize boxes which contain (lots of) high-density foam cushioning for ensuring that your purchase arrives in the best condition. Each apple occupies its own foam slot for protection, and we pack the box with fruit that is of highest quality. However, we have no control over distance, storage, temperature, or handling during transit, so if the fruit arrives overripe or spoiled, we most likely will not offer a refund, although you're welcome to contact us about it. We offer 2nd Business Day and Next Business Day shipping in case you'd like to take an extra step in protecting your "Bird-in-Hand Brand" Sansa apples during shipping. This item is not available for sale in or to California, Oregon, and Washington.

Crisp, Juicy, Sweet Apple in August!

As an apple lover, I was very excited to taste these new crop apples when my Sansa apple box arrived on August 6. Although not the prettiest apple I have seen, they were packaged well with foam and then I tasted one... Sansa are crisp, juicy, and sweet. After having waited months for fresh apples, these certainly fit the bill for a great eating apple to break the long apple-less fast.
