Gala has quickly climbed the ladder of fame worldw-i-d-e, throughout the United States - and even at Kauffman's Fruit Farm in a corner of the south-eastern Pennsylvania Dutch Country! It is one of our most popular eating-out-of-hand apples and there are, employees like website sales staff Ann Fisher and maintenance main-stay Ken Weaver want you to know, a lengthy list of reasons why! Gala has a glowing red-orange appearance, sweet & wonderful taste, and an excellent "crunch quotient." Other tasteful usages for this variety includes apple salads and candy apples. (Don't miss the tutorial video, below.)

Speaking of Gala's beginning: This variety (GMO-free, like all Kauffman's Fruit Farm orchard fruits) originated in New Zealand and, interestingly, includes Red Delicious (a grandparent), Golden Delicious (a parent) and Cox Orange Pippin, a highly regarded British variety in its ancestry.

Speaking of Gala's popularity: We first planted this variety here in our Bird-in-Hand orchards in 1987 and since that humble beginning of about seventy trees have probably devoted more acreage to Gala than any other!

Speaking of Gala's versatility: We here at Kauffman's, while considering (and often recommending!) Gala as a high-end fresh-eating apple rarely regarded this variety as one for use in baking. Apparently our vision is too nearsighted(!) - check out this Finding The Best Apples For Baking Taste Test! And "culinary guru" Dorrie Greenspan speaks approvingly of using Gala when making her Fruit-Nut-&-Honey Baked Apple dessert. We'd be very interested in knowing what you think - just click on the Product Reviews tab, above, and go from there.

More great varieties grown on our farm here in Bird-in-Hand which are similar to Gala include Sansa (a noteworthy descendent of Gala!) and Zestar (a classic new variety developed by the same folks who gave us Honeycrisp!).

The boxes we fill chock-full with Gala apples feature high-density foam cushioning. Each apple occupies its own foam slot for protection, and we pack the box with fruit that is of highest quality. However, we have no control over distance, storage, temperature, or handling during transit, so if the fruit arrives overripe or spoiled, we most likely will not offer a refund, although you're welcome to contact us about it. We offer 2nd Business Day and Next Business Day shipping for those customers who'd like to take an extra step in protecting these Gala apples during shipping. This item is not available for sale in or to California, Oregon, and Washington.

These are the best Galas I've ever bitten into. Sweet and crunchy, and all arrived in perfect condition. What a healthy Christmas treat. Now I want to try other fruits from this place.
