On average in the last five years, we hand-harvested the following yearly volumes of fruit from our orchards:

  • Apples - 39,789 Bushels
  • Peaches - 14,198 Half-bushels
  • Pears - 1,487 Half-bushels
  • Plums - 772 Half-bushels
  • Cherries - 14,198 Pounds
  • Total average yield by weight - 2,077,963 lb. (1038 tons)

Varieties: An Ever-Changing Scene

  • Current high apple producers by volume: Gala, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious, Rome, Pink Lady, Fuji, Ginger Gold
  • Biggest increases over last several years: Gala, Fuji, Pink Lady, Honeycrisp, Crimson Crisp, Goldrush
  • Varieties recently discontinued:
    • Apples - Pristine: orchard block rotation; Braeburn: poor consumer demand
    • Peaches - Redskin, White Hale, Encore, Fayette, Summer Breeze, Gloria: tree age, poor fruit quality; Raritan Rose: poor consumer demand
    • Plums - Early Magic: poor productivity
    • Cherries - Sams: poor quality and flavor
    • Pears - Bartlett and Red Bartlett: fireblight problem
  • New and promising varieties:
    • Apples: Crimson Crisp, Goldrush
    • Peaches: Flaming Fury 8, 9, 11; Richmay; Contender
    • Cherries: Ebony Pearl, Black Pearl, Burgundy Pearl
    • Plums: Bluebyrd, Spring Satin
    • Pears: Blake's Pride, Seckel, Magness, Potomac, Harrow Sweet, Shenandoah
